Steamers To Ayrshire

ISBN: 978-1-84033-817-1

by Andrew Clark

In sepia and in full colour this latest collection from self-dubbed ‘steamer dreamer’ Andrew Clark deals with the Clyde steamers that plied to and from Ayrshire ports. The heyday of this pleasure cruising was the 1890s to the 1950s when dozens of different steamers were involved. Today only the Waverley continues the tradition of departing from Ayrshire and heading off in all directions.

This companion volume to the author’s other three Steamers to titles is, like them, illustrated from his extensive collection of rare and unusual steamer images. Locations featured in the book are Ardrossan’s Winton Pier, Largs, Ailsa Craig, Ayr, Portencross, Fairlie, Irvine, Troon and Girvan.

It is good to reminisce about the wonderful steamers that have graced the Ayrshire coast, particularly at Largs and Ardrossan.

This is a nice coffee-table type book with some good photograph and I would highly recommend it.
